New research suggests that diabetes and periodontitis may be linked to each other more than we know.

As you may know, if you have Type II Diabetes, you are THREE times more likely to have periodontal disease, but did you know that if you have periodontal disease, you are more likely to become a diabetic?  New research shows that the same pathway used to cause Type II Diabetes is also the same pathway and factors that cause periodontitis.  If you have periodontitis, it is beneficial to control your disease which may help to prevent Type II Diabetes. If you have Type II Diabetes, make sure to have cleanings more often and monitor your blood glucose to help prevent periodontitis.
