Meet the Team at Dr. Alicia Abeyta’s office!
Rosie Avila, RDH
Rosie Avila has been a dental hygienist for over a decade. She has her bachelors degree from the school of medicine at the University of New Mexico in the field of Dental Hygiene. She holds her anesthesia certification and excels in periodontal therapy. She believes the health of the oral tissue is a reflection of the entire body. She strives to maintain great oral health with all of her patients to ensure the possibility for total body health. Rosie has extensive training in Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Tempromandibular Joint Disorders, Oral Cancer Screenings and Periodontal Therapy.
Rosie has always lived in New Mexico with her family. She loves being a dental hygienist and is excited to be working at an office where patients needs and concerns are put first. Rosie is kind and lighthearted. She enjoys laughing with her patients and feels a great accomplishment when they enjoy their appointments. She focuses on patient centered care and creates an environment of trust and loyalty while paying attention to the details of each patients health.
Summer Bennett, CDA Patient Care Manager
Summer is the Patient Care Manager for Dr. Abeyta. She is an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, and a Licensed Esthetician. She is a native to Albuquerque and received her degree at Central New Mexico Community College as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant and completed her Esthetician degree at the Aveda Institute. She chose to start her dental assisting career in Georgia. She decided that Albuquerque was her home and returned to gain extensive experience with multiple Doctors which allowed her to become knowledgeable in a range of diverse comprehensive treatment assisting, including TMJ therapy and complex case management.
She has been working with Dr. Alicia Abeyta for over a decade because she understands the value of a healthy environment for both the patient and other team members. Summer is a Member of the Dental Assisting National Board. She is currently expanding her skills by offering the latest in technology and holistic skin care. “I’m excited in my new role as patient care manager to help each patient with their individual goals and needs. I will educate and manage the treatment plans for each patient and address any questions and concerns they may have along the way. I will be their personal concierge to help them improve and maintain their dental health.”
Joanna Valentine, Office Manager
Joanna Valentine is the office manager for Dr. Abeyta. She is originally from Indiana where she received her degree in business administration from Ivy Tech Community College. She has a business background of working for non-profits and had a long term career in the electric cooperative utility industry.
She started her interest in the practice of Dr. Abeyta’s dental office at the time of her move to Albuquerque in 2009. “I was looking for a dentist and staff that were interested in providing gentle, highly skilled, quality care. Little did I realize that in the future not only would I become a loyal patient but that I’d become a part of this successful, caring team!”. Joanna has always enjoyed a serene environment and things that were neat and orderly. She has combined her love for an efficiently ran office with her love of communicating with people. One of her passions is to extend and to foster Dr. Abeyta’s philosophy of delivering highly skilled quality care with the patients comfort in the fore front of each visit.
Sydnee Browder CDA
Sydnee is Dr. Abeyta’s Lead Assistant. She was born in Texas but grew up here in Albuquerque. She received her certificate in Dental Assisting from PIMA Medical Institute and graduated the top of her class with a 4.1 GPA. She is a member of the Dental Assistant National Board and is currently waiting on her acceptance to the American Dental Assistant Association. She plans on furthering her education so that she can become an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant.
Sydnee’s eagerness to expand her dental knowledge, makes her a perfect asset to Dr. Abeyta’s team. Her experience as a manger in retail, provided her with strong skills in customer service and chairside manner. “I love being a Dental Assistant by helping my patients feel comfortable and safe. I love learning and helping our patients with the best treatment there is available.”
Sandraluz Gonzalez, Myofunctional Therapist and Hygienist
Sandraluz Gonzalez is a registered dental hygienist, and a certified orofacial myofunctional therapist practicing in the greater Albuquerque area. Sandraluz is a lifelong resident of Albuquerque who graduated from St. Pius X High School and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Mexico.
Sandraluz has completed advanced training in the treatment of orofacial myofunctional disorders, to include courses on airway disorders, sleep disorders, temporomandibular joint disorders, breast feeding disorders, and craniofacial, head and neck pain. Sandraluz has had professional clinical experience in a variety of settings, including stroke rehabilitation, cleft-palate evaluations, tongue and lip restriction which interfere w/ breastfeeding, Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), and temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJD) rehabilitation. She is able to bring this expertise to accompany what Dr. Abeyta has created within her holistic dental practice.
In 2012 Sandraluz opened her own private practice focusing her attention on children with palatal formation disorders, open mouth breathing, tongue thrust disorders, speech sound disorders, improper swallow, and oral habit elimination. Recently, her focus has expanded to include adult patients who have been diagnosed with breathing disorders, and/or Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and may not be able to tolerate C-PAP or oral appliance therapy, and infants with feeding restrictions.
Sandraluz is a member and strong advocate of the American Academy of Physiologic Medicine and Dentistry (AAPMD), who helps to bring awareness to Silent Airway Disorders. She is also a member of the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT), Academy of Applied Myofunctional Sciences (AAMS), and the American Dental Hygiene Association (ADHA).
