After 115 blog posts, I found myself asking, “What about floss?”

This week I decided to research the history of floss.  Here is what I found:

Levi Parmly is said to have invented the first form of floss in 1815.  This floss was made from silk.  In 1882, Codman and Shurtleft company began making unwaxed silk floss.  It wasn’t until 1898 that the first patent was issued to Johnson & Johnson for dental floss.  During World War II, Dr. Charles Bass created nylon floss.  This floss held up much better than the silk floss.  Today floss is made out of biodegradable material and is found in many forms including floss picks, spongy floss, soft floss, and of course waxed and unwaxed floss.
